- The Able series contains programs te enhance skills in arithmetic and spelling.
-
- No specific installation procedure is required. Just unzip into a directory
- and type ABLE. (Of course you can run the program under Windows as well!).
-
- These programs are shareware. That means that you can evaluate the programs
- but are expected to pay a minimal amount before complete access to the program
- is given. To this end, release codes will be issued once payment is received.
- There is no limitation on distribution of the programs provided that the
- complete set of files is distributed.
-
- The author (Rudi van den Brink) can be contacted via e-mail: rudi@able.co.nz
-
- All programs are professionally written and aimed at students aged between 4
- and 12 years old. All programs maintain individual score and progress charts
- to challenge the student to do better next time. Animation makes it more
- enjoyable. Certificates are available on screen and in print.
-
- ABLE TABLE - A maths program covering tables, multiplication, division,
- adding, subtracting, and percentages). Addition and subtraction have the
- option to use decimals. Students learn basic arithmetic in a fun way.
-
- ABLE WORD - Students learn to recognise words in their correct spelling. They
- type the words which flash on the screen. The program uses the levels of the
- Alphabetical Spelling List compiled by the NZ Council for Educational Research.
- More than 2,300 words from this list are contained in the program. In addition
- you can add your own individual word lists for practice sessions.
-
- ABLE COPY - Similar to ABLE WORD, but words stay on the screen. Students can
- copy the words as they see them. They learn how to use the keyboard, while
- practising spelling at the same time. Because the words stay on the screen,
- students will be able to use words from a higher level than they would
- otherwise be able to.
-
- ABLE SPELL - Students learn to recognise the "make-up" of words. They assemble
- words by moving a little character around the screen to select letters for the
- words to build.
-
- ABLE GUESS - Students are encouraged to guess the words before they are
- displayed in full on the screen. Correct guesses are rewarded with score
- points, but incorrect guesses mean that points are deducted. Big letters.
- Options to adjust the skill level of the student.
-
- ABLE MATCH - A word association program, teaching students to interpret words.
- You create your own word lists. For example, a list with opposites (low -
- high, up - down, etc.). Very useful to learn languages, for example learn to
- translate English words into French words (or the other way around). Use is
- only limited by your own imagination. A number of sample lists come with the
- program.
-
- ABLE CHOICE - A Multiple Choice program that will give you hours of fun!
- Design your own question sets and play against time or another player. If you
- like Trivial Pursuit, then you will certainly like this! Comes with sample
- question sets.
-
- ABLE CALC - This arithmetic (game) program is aimed at more advanced students.
- The program challenges the player to use addition and/or subtraction to total
- a number of grid squares. If this is correctly done, the player moves on to a
- larger grid. Additional games (slide puzzle, running numbers, and a Tetris-
- like number recognition game) are included as rewards for good progress.
-
- ABLE MENU - A handy utility which comes with the above. Gives easy access to
- your ABLE programs. Included is an addictive little calculator game (Catch'em)
- which challenges the player to apply basic arithmetic. Good at any age.
